Raku Firing Demonstration & Workshop
Discover the dramatic and beautiful art of raku firing in this hands-on demonstration and workshop led by studio director Ria Harman. Raku is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique known for its unique glazes and unpredictable, stunning results. **What is Raku Firing?** Raku firing is a ceramic technique that involves removing pottery from the kiln while it's still glowing hot (around 1000°C) and placing it in combustible materials. This process creates unique metallic and crackle effects that cannot be achieved through conventional firing methods. **Workshop Experience:** - Learn about the history and philosophy of raku - Observe the dramatic firing process - Participate in the removal and reduction process - Create your own raku-fired piece - Understand safety procedures for hot work **What You'll Take Home:** - One raku-fired ceramic piece - Deep understanding of this ancient technique - New appreciation for Japanese ceramic traditions - Safety knowledge for future raku work **Safety Note:** This workshop involves working with extremely hot materials and open flames. All safety equipment is provided, and comprehensive safety briefing is included. Participants must be 16+ years old. Limited to 8 participants for safety and quality instruction. Book early to secure your place in this unique ceramic experience.
